There’s a huge amount to see and do in East Lothian. You can enjoy a day at the races at the famous Musselburgh Racecourse and you can even climb onboard the awesome Concorde airliner at the National Museum of Flight. Then there’s the award-winning Scottish Seabird Centre, perched right on the seafront in stunning North Berwick and, just along the coast from there, the impressive cliff-top fortress of Tantallon Castle. If you’re seeking thrills and spills there is plenty on offer from wakeboarding and surfing to cycling and horse riding. You really will be spoiled for choice here. There’s something for everyone!
East Lothian is the birthplace of John Muir, renowned conservationist and father of America’s National Parks, and the area is home to a rich variety of wildlife – thousands of seabirds arrive each year to nest on its islands and coastline. The John Muir Way long distance walking and cycling route runs for 134 miles (215km) from Dunbar in the East to Helensburgh in the West.
Charming towns and villages invite you to browse in their art galleries, museums and gift shops. Musselburgh’s famous Brunton attracts some of the best theatre, dance and entertainment around and, not to be forgotten, East Lothian is the ancient home of golf. You’ll find some of the great links and parkland courses here, including the world famous Muirfield.
Scotland’s Food & Drink County offers you the chance to savour delicious fresh local produce, as well as seafood specialties in our local delicatessens, restaurants and cafes. Don’t forget to sample whisky Scotland’s national drink at the five star Glenkinchie Distillery.
East Lothian is incredibly easy to get to, bordering Edinburgh, and including the major road and rail networks.
We look forward to giving you a warm, East Lothian welcome!
